What is the restoration status ?

Since Memorial Flight received the J 22, a lot of pre-restoration work has been done :

  • A deep study of the aircraft, its equipment, structure, engine, etc. has been conducted. A large documentation has been gathered.
  • Specific jigs were built for the engine and the fuselage. And all the missing equipment (electric motors, landing gear regulation system, etc.) were found in Sweden.
  • The engine was removed from the fuselage, and is awaiting restoration.
  • The cockpit was completely disassembled.

Most of the steel tube structure, behind the firewall, cannot be reused for flying. Memorial Flight is currently looking for partners who would be able to rebuild the fuselage and wing welded structures. Quotes will be made to get a fair idea of the costs involved.
